Coach & Minibus Hire in Germany

Nuremberg by Minibus, from the Castle to Franconia

Nuremberg's walled old town keeps traffic out, which makes it lovely on foot and tricky with a vehicle. A minibus with a driver drops your group at the edge of the walls, then takes you on to Bamberg, Rothenburg or Franconian Switzerland.

At the edge of the walls

Coaches may not drive into the Altstadt. They set down at its edge instead: Grasersgasse on the west side for quick stops of up to 15 minutes, Vestnertorgraben with lay-bys for up to two hours, and Spittlertorgraben between Ludwigstor and Fürther Tor. The main sights are all within about 15 minutes' walk.

Augustinerstraße, through the Hallertor, is closed to coaches from 09:00 to 18:00. The exception is a coach bringing people with limited mobility, which needs an online time-slot permit for each set-down and each pick-up. If someone in your party walks with difficulty, tell us early.

There is no Umweltzone, no sticker and no diesel ban. A few railway underpasses are low, so the route is planned with the vehicle's height in mind.

History that needs booking

The Dokumentationszentrum Reichsparteitagsgelände has reopened with a new permanent exhibition. Children under 14 should not visit, and groups of ten or more register with the booking office in advance. Coaches set down in front of the centre, then park on Schultheißallee.

The Memorium Nürnberger Prozesse, with Courtroom 600, closes every Tuesday; groups of ten or more register, and guided tours are booked at least three weeks ahead. The Zeppelintribüne and Zeppelinfeld stay closed for safety works for several years yet.

Recently, coaches have set down and picked up at P1 Vestnertorgraben, about 950 m away and steep, or P2 Grasersgasse, about 750 m, with staff on hand, then parked on the Volksfestplatz. The arrangement is confirmed each year.

Franconia in a day

Bamberg is about 61 km away, an hour and a quarter. Passengers get on and off only at the Mußstraße stop, and the only coach park is on Margaretendamm. Pottenstein in Franconian Switzerland is about 65 km, Bayreuth about 84 km.

On the Romantic Road, Dinkelsbühl is about 101 km and Rothenburg ob der Tauber about 103 km, each about an hour and a half.

Questions travellers ask

Can we visit the Kaiserburg as a group?

Yes. The deep well, the Tiefer Brunnen, is shown only on a guided tour, and groups using audioguides are asked to book a time. The castle closes on 1 January, Shrove Tuesday and 24, 25 and 31 December.

How close is the airport?

From the Hauptmarkt to the airport is about 8 km, roughly 15 minutes. Its multi-storey car parks admit vehicles up to 2.10 m high, so for a taller minibus the airport is contacted in advance and the meeting spot agreed with you.

Is the Albrecht-Dürer-Haus good for a small group?

Yes. Groups of ten or more register, tours take up to 25 people. It has no parking, so you walk in from the edge of the old town.
