Leipzig/Halle Airport: a minibus between two cities
Leipzig/Halle Airport sits between both cities, about 21 km from the Markt in Leipzig and 30 km from Halle. Arrivals and departures share Terminal B, and the railway station lies directly below the check-in hall.
The forecourt in front of Terminal B
Three lanes lead up to Terminal B behind a barrier. The first two belong to taxis and transfer firms with an airport contract, who sort out their access with the parking management. The third is Kiss & Fly: roughly 80 bays, no height barrier, and an hour at most.
Private drivers get a short free spell in that third lane; commercial vehicles do not, and pay from the moment they enter. Leipzig/Halle names no coach pick-up point either, so where your vehicle waits and where you meet the driver are confirmed when you book.

Leipzig or Halle first?
A quiet-road drive to the Markt in Leipzig takes around 25 minutes. The city keeps a low-emission zone, so vehicles need the green sticker. Halle is about 30 km from the airport, roughly half an hour.
When you fly home, P11 right outside check-in lets a vehicle stay up to 3 hours, which helps if you want time for a coffee before security.
Terminals at a glance

Good to know: Leipzig/Halle Airport
- Dresden (Neumarkt) is about 124 km by road, about 1 h 25 min in light traffic.
- Halle (Saale) is about 30 km by road, about 30 min in light traffic.
- Taxis wait in lanes 1 and 2 in front of Terminal B.
- Night bus NXL runs to Leipzig Hauptbahnhof, and bus 217 also serves the airport.
- In October 2026 rail works shorten or cancel some S5/S5X and IC services; check the current timetable before travel.
- Intercity (IC) trains stop every two hours without a change from cities such as Dresden, Magdeburg, Hannover, Bielefeld and Köln; ICE trains do not stop at the airport, so ICE passengers change at Leipzig or Halle.
- The airport railway station Leipzig/Halle Flughafen is directly below the check-in area. S-Bahn lines S5 and S5X run every 30 minutes: about 14 minutes to Leipzig Hauptbahnhof and about 10 minutes to Halle (Saale) Hauptbahnhof.
Further into Saxony and beyond
Dresden’s Neumarkt and the Frauenkirche are about 124 km from the airport, around 1 h 25 min. From Leipzig itself, Naumburg with its cathedral, Lutherstadt Wittenberg and Weimar all make good day trips for a small group, each between about one hour and an hour and a half away. Colditz Castle, about 50 km from the city, suits groups with a taste for history.
Questions travellers ask
Can we take the train instead?
Two S-Bahn lines, S5 and S5X, leave twice an hour: Leipzig Hauptbahnhof is around 14 minutes away and Halle around 10. Intercity trains call every two hours, ICE trains not at all. Rail timetables change during works, so check yours shortly before the trip.
Will a minibus fit in the car park?
Not in the multi-storey: its barrier sits at 1.90 m, lower than most minibuses. Lane 3 has no height limit, which is why the forecourt matters more here.
Can we stop in the city before checking in?
Yes: the driver can take you from arrivals to a first stop in Leipzig before the hotel. Mention it when you book, so the timing allows for luggage and the driver’s hours.
