Düsseldorf by Minibus: the Altstadt and the Rhineland

Düsseldorf is a city for evenings out: the Altstadt brewery pubs, the riverside promenade, a concert at the arena. A minibus and a driver take your group there and home again, and by day out into the Rhineland and the Ruhr.

Parking near the Altstadt

Two official coach parks serve the old town. Fritz-Roeber-Straße has 17 places and normally needs no booking; the Rheinterrasse by the Tonhalle on Robert-Lehr-Ufer is paid, open day and night, with a 4.00 m entry height. Groups heading to the Kunstpalast are set down on Brüderstraße opposite the Rheinterrassen.

The Königsallee has no official coach stop, so shoppers are dropped near the Altstadt and stroll over. Much of Düsseldorf lies inside an Umweltzone, where German and foreign vehicles alike need the green sticker; the roads to the Messe and the airport car parks lie outside it. There are no diesel bans.

Christmas-market season

The markets fill the centre from 19 November to 30 December 2026. During those weeks, a coach place has to be booked ahead with Visit Düsseldorf, and passengers get out at the public stop on Fritz-Roeber-Straße. The booking system was being renewed in autumn 2026, so ask how reservations work when you plan.

On every coach place in the city, engines are switched off while the vehicle waits.

The Rhineland and the Ruhr

The Neanderthal Museum in Mettmann is about 14 km away. The Schwebebahn in Wuppertal is about 32 km, and Schloss Burg at Solingen about 55 km. Industrial heritage is close too: Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord about 36 km, Zeche Zollverein in Essen about 40 km.

Xanten is about 66 km north, an hour; Cologne about 40 km south. Maastricht in the Netherlands is about 114 km. Amsterdam, about 227 km and over three hours each way, is a stretch: drivers may not exceed 9 hours of driving a day, so the visit itself would be short.

Airport, station and arenas

Düsseldorf Airport is about 9 km from Burgplatz, around 15 minutes. Coaches dropping passengers use a stopping area on the departures level; for pick-ups, the driver first reports to the coordinator at the registration point before collecting the group.

Fortuna Düsseldorf plays at the MERKUR SPIEL-ARENA beside the Messe. Under the PSD BANK DOME, the garage stops at 1.90 m, too low for most minibuses, so the driver agrees another stopping point.

Questions travellers ask

Can we tour Schloss Benrath as a group?

Yes, with a request through the foundation's form. Most tours take up to 20 people; the “Verborgene Räume” tour takes at most 8, all aged 12 or over.

Are K20 and K21 group-friendly?

Yes: the group rate begins at 10 paying visitors, and guided tours take up to 20. Both buildings close on Mondays.

Can a group go up the Rheinturm?

The viewing level M168 is open daily from 10:00 until midnight, and on clear days you can see Cologne Cathedral. No group rules or coach stop are published, so the driver confirms where to drop you.
