Bremen by Minibus: Old Town, Weser and the Coast

Bremen packs a UNESCO town hall, a medieval quarter and a riverside promenade into one short walk, and the North Sea coast is under an hour away. A minibus with a driver gives your group both without juggling trains.

Mind the green sticker

The old town sits inside Bremen's low-emission zone, which also takes in large parts of the Neustadt across the Weser, the Östliche Vorstadt and some of Schwachhausen. Signs mark where it begins, and nothing without a green sticker may drive in, whether it is a coach, a minibus or a car from another country.

Ask about the sticker when you confirm the booking. It is the kind of detail best settled at the planning stage, not at the edge of the zone. Exemptions can be applied for, and the rule is worth checking before travel.

Set-down points for the old town

Closest to the Schnoor and the Böttcherstraße is the signed stop on the Wachtstraße, four places usable from 08:00 until 20:00. The Martinistraße stop works well for the Schlachte, and for the Hauptbahnhof and the Übersee-Museum there are stops on the Breitenweg and the Hugo-Schauinsland-Platz.

Once you are off, the driver heads to a coach park such as the Bürgerweide by the station, the Rembertiring or the free car park at the Neustadtsbahnhof. The official parking plan dates from 2022, so the city's traffic centre, VMZ Bremen, has the current picture.

Coming in on a cruise

An afternoon at your own pace

Start at the Marktplatz with the Rathaus and the Roland, then wander through the Böttcherstraße into the narrow lanes of the Schnoor. Dinner on the Schlachte by the Weser rounds off a birthday weekend or a club trip nicely.

When the Freimarkt, a funfair held since 1035, takes over the Bürgerweide in autumn, plan to park elsewhere while it runs.

Bremerhaven and the coast

The Havenwelten in Bremerhaven, about 55 minutes away, bring together the Klimahaus, the Deutsches Auswandererhaus, the maritime museum and the Zoo am Meer. Down on the Columbusstraße, five covered bays let a vehicle pause for up to 10 minutes, and the free parking on the Barkhausenstraße is roughly 900 m further north.

Worpswede, the artists' village, is about 30 minutes out, Oldenburg about 40 and Cuxhaven about 1 h 10 min. Hamburg and Hanover are both around 1 h 25 min.

Questions travellers ask

Is Bremen Airport close to the centre?

Very. The Marktplatz is only 4 km or so away, around 10 minutes by road, and the number 6 tram runs from the terminal to the Hauptbahnhof.

Can we be met off a cruise in Bremerhaven?

Certainly. Allow roughly 50 minutes (68 km) between the cruise terminal and Bremen; a minibus suits a family or small party with luggage.

Is there parking near the Messe?

The Bürgerweide beside the Messe, the ÖVB-Arena and the station is a large paid car park, though big events can fill it.

Do you run the vehicles yourselves?

No. A licensed partner operator supplies the minibus and driver, and we look after the booking.
