Dresden Minibus Hire for the Elbe and Saxon Switzerland
Dresden's Altstadt is compact, but much of the region's beauty lies along the Elbe: Pillnitz, Meissen, the fortress of Königstein and the sandstone rocks of Saxon Switzerland. A minibus with a driver strings them together at your own pace.
An easy city with a hired vehicle
Dresden has no Umweltzone and no diesel bans, so no sticker is needed. A signposted route system steers coaches from the main roads to the places where they may stop or park.
The terminal Am Zwingerteich, beside the Zwinger, takes a vehicle for up to 30 minutes and has a glass pavilion next to it where drivers and guides can rest, with toilets and a bistro. Set-down points such as Altmarkt/Wilsdruffer Straße are for groups ready to board, not for waiting, and coach parks allow two to three hours.
With the Carolabrücke demolished, traffic crosses the Elbe on the other bridges until a new one is built.

Inside the Altstadt
The Frauenkirche asks groups to register in advance. Gallery tours take up to 30 people, and the guided dome climb outside opening hours up to 25. Suitcases and large bags must stay outside, so leave them in the vehicle.
Tuesday is the Residenzschloss's closing day. For the Historisches Grünes Gewölbe, buy timed tickets; the guides of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen lead at most 25 people at once, so bigger parties split into two.

Saxon Switzerland and the Elbe valley
The Bastei is about 40 km away, just under an hour. Coaches stop at car park no. 1 at the start of the Basteistraße; from there it is about 3.5 km on foot, or a shuttle bus from April to October. Festung Königstein, about 39 km, has coach parking at the fortress and lifts up to the walls.
Meissen is about 27 km downriver. Guided tours of the Albrechtsburg must be booked, for at least 10 people, and the porcelain manufactory's visitor centre is on Talstraße. Schloss Moritzburg, about 19 km, offers palace tours for groups of 15 or more, and Pillnitz, about 13 km upriver, lets vehicles set down in the palace courtyard.
Further afield
Prague is about 146 km and two hours away; Czech roads charge vehicles over 3.5 tonnes an electronic toll, so include it in the plan. Seiffen in the Erzgebirge is about 69 km. In winter, hill roads there and in Saxon Switzerland often have ice or snow, and German law then requires winter tyres.
Dresden Airport is about 10 km from the Neumarkt, around 20 minutes.
Questions travellers ask
Can we visit the Striezelmarkt by minibus?
Yes. It fills the Altmarkt, in 2026 from 25 November to 24 December. The closest stop is Altmarkt/Wilsdruffer Straße, for getting on and off only, and the market publishes no special coach rules.
Can our choir tour the Semperoper?
A theatre tour takes 45 minutes, starting next to the main doors on the Theaterplatz. Exclusive group tours are booked on request for up to 10, 20 or 30 people.
Where do we meet the driver at Dresden Airport?
No official coach pick-up point is published there, so you and the operator settle on a meeting place at the time of booking.
