Coach & Minibus Hire in Germany

Cologne by Minibus, for Celebrations and Day Trips

Cologne loves a party, from carnival in February to the Christmas markets in Advent. A minibus with a driver gets a hen party, a family reunion or a club outing to the Altstadt and home again without anyone waiting for the last tram.

Set down at Gereonstraße, not at the Dom

Coaches cannot stop at the cathedral. The city's central stop is on Gereonstraße, a short walk away, where a coach may stand for up to 15 minutes with the engine off while people get on or off. Komödienstraße is now off limits, and the stops on Breslauer Platz belong to buses and trams.

After the drop, coaches head to the free Buspark on Kuhweg in Riehl, with room for about 80. Advent changes the picture: in 2026 Gereonstraße closes from 26 November to 23 December, and coaches use car park P22 at the Koelnmesse instead, booked in advance, with a free shuttle bus to the Heumarkt. The plan is set again each year.

Green sticker almost everywhere

Cologne's Umweltzone takes in almost all of the city, left bank and right. A green sticker is required, for vehicles registered abroad too, and coaches get no general exemption. There are no diesel bans, and no end to the zone has been announced.

The cathedral and the old town

Since 1 July 2026 the Kölner Dom has charged a sightseeing ticket for visits to the interior; services and the prayer area stay free. Guided tours inside are led only by authorised cathedral guides, take at most 20 people and must reach the DOMFORUM as a booking 14 days or more in advance.

Leave wheeled suitcases in the vehicle: they are not allowed in the Dom and cannot be left there. The chocolate museum is about 500 m along the river from the Altstadt and runs guided tours for up to 25; it names no coach stop, so your driver confirms where to meet.

Along the Rhine and into the hills

Bonn is about 30 km away, Königswinter and the Drachenfels about 40 km, and the palaces at Brühl about 20 km, each well under an hour. Families with children often head for Phantasialand, about 23 km.

The Ahr valley is about an hour south and Aachen an hour and a quarter west. Burg Eltz and Cochem on the Moselle are each about an hour and three quarters, a fine day for a group that enjoys castles and wine.

Questions travellers ask

Can we come for carnival as a group?

Yes, but plan around the closures. The city shuts roads in the centre for the street carnival, and the plan changes every year. In 2027 Weiberfastnacht falls on 4 February and Rosenmontag on 8 February.

How far is the airport?

Köln/Bonn is about 16 km from the cathedral, around 20 minutes in light traffic. Düsseldorf Airport is about 60 km, roughly an hour.

Is the LANXESS arena easy by minibus?

The arena is in Deutz, beside Köln Messe/Deutz station. Car park P5 on Gummersbacher Straße has no height limit and takes minibuses and coaches, but it closes for every Kölner Haie game and often on concert days, so the driver confirms another spot.
