Cologne Bonn Airport: minibus pickups for Cologne, Bonn and the Rhine

Cologne Bonn Airport lies between the two cities, about 16 km from the cathedral and 24 km from the Markt in Bonn. Its long-distance bus station sits right beside Terminal 2 and is covered, so the walk to your vehicle stays dry.

The bus station next to Terminal 2

Coaches and larger minibuses use the airport’s long-distance bus station, known as the ZOB or P32. It has 11 bays and covered walkways to the terminal and the railway station. Passengers may only get on and off at the bays inside the bus station, so the driver will not stop out on the road.

The operator announces the coach to the airport a full day or more before it comes, so send your flight details in good time. Engines may not idle, and the bus station is no place for a driver’s rest break. There are even bays set aside for coaches with luggage trailers.

Landing at Terminal 1?

The airport has Terminals 1 and 2, with the railway station close to both. If you arrive at Terminal 1, allow a little longer to walk across to the bus station with your cases.

For a car with driver, the airport publishes no waiting area. It suggests that people meeting arrivals park in the car park nearest their terminal and agree a meeting point. Taller vehicles can use P1 or Parkplatz Nord, as P2 and P3 stop at 1.95 m.

Good to know: Cologne Bonn Airport

  • Düsseldorf (Burgplatz) is about 55 km by road, about 45 min in light traffic.
  • Bonn (Markt) is about 24 km by road, about 25 min in light traffic.
  • Taxis wait in the taxi lanes in front of the terminals; app-booked rides have their own pick-up lane between the two terminals.
  • Rail works in the region cause line changes in autumn 2026 (for example on S19 and RB26); check the current timetable before travel.
  • The airport has its own ICE station close to both terminals, and S-Bahn, regional and bus lines serve it around the clock; S-Bahn line S19 and the regional express RE6 stop there. An express bus links the airport with Bonn Hauptbahnhof.

Cologne, Bonn and the Rhine

The drive to the Kölner Dom takes about 20 minutes in light traffic. Cologne has a large low-emission zone, and coaches cannot set down at the cathedral itself: the usual stop is Gereonstraße, a short walk away, with a different arrangement in the weeks before Christmas.

Bonn is about 24 km from the airport, roughly 25 minutes, and Düsseldorf about 55 km. From Cologne, a gentle day heads south along the Rhine to Königswinter and the Drachenfels, or into the Ahr valley for its red wines.

Carnival and Advent weekends

Flying in for carnival or the Christmas markets? The city changes roads and coach stops for these weeks every year, and the plan for your dates is confirmed when you book.

Questions travellers ask

Does the airport have a railway station?

Yes. ICE trains call at the airport’s own station, a short walk from either terminal, and so do S-Bahn line S19 and the RE6. An express bus links the airport with Bonn Hauptbahnhof. Timetables can change during engineering works, so check them before you set off.

Can the driver meet us outside the terminal doors?

The forecourt is barrier-controlled, and its Kiss & Fly lane is meant for short drop-offs. Group vehicles load inside the bus station, and you agree where to meet the driver in advance.

We are 12 people with lots of luggage. What do we need?

Twelve passengers means a minibus. Tell us about the cases, prams and any sports kit: a vehicle with more seats than people, or one towing a luggage trailer, may be the answer.
