Düsseldorf Airport pickups for families, clubs and wedding guests
Everything at Düsseldorf happens in one terminal building with three concourses, A, B and C, and the kerb rules are firm. Nobody may stop on the arrivals level, so your minibus is planned around the places where stopping is allowed.
No stopping outside arrivals
Stopping is forbidden outright on the arrivals level. You meet your driver in the public part of the arrivals hall, and the vehicle waits where the airport permits, which depends on its size.
Any bus longer than 6 m and seating more than nine first checks in at the DUS-Bus registration point with the flight number and landing time. A coordinator then gives the driver a time to drive in to the bus terminal, where they load at the pick-up bays 1 to 3. It is a tidy system, and it means the bus turns up when your group does, not an hour before.

If your group fits in a smaller van
The registration covers the larger buses only. Compact vans and cars with driver have no waiting area of their own here, so the stopping place is settled with the operator and confirmed before you fly.
Terminals at a glance
- One terminal building with concourses (Flugsteige) A, B and C, a central check-in hall on the departures level (E1) and the arrivals level (E0)
Good to know: Düsseldorf Airport
- Köln (Dom) is about 60 km by road, about 45-50 min in light traffic.
- Taxis wait at marked taxi ranks on the arrivals and departures levels.
- From 4 September to 30 October 2026, works in the Duisburg and Essen area disrupt many regional and S-Bahn lines to the airport (including RE1, RE2, RE3, RE6, RE11, RE42, RE44, RB32, RB33 and S1); check before travel.
- Light-rail lines U80 and U81 now serve the underground station Flughafen Terminal: about 15 minutes to the Altstadt and about 7 minutes to the Messe Düsseldorf (airport press release of 4 September 2026).
- S-Bahn line S11 runs from the station Düsseldorf Flughafen Terminal, in the terminal basement, via Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof to Bergisch Gladbach.
- The long-distance station Düsseldorf Flughafen, at the eastern edge of the airport, is served daily by many regional and long-distance trains, from the S-Bahn to the ICE. The SkyTrain links it with the terminal in about 7 minutes, stopping at car parks P4/P5, Terminal A/B and Terminal C; it runs daily from 03:45 to 00:45, every 5 to 7 minutes. Until 1 November 2026 an extra shuttle bus runs from 02:15 to 03:30.
Going home from the departures level
On the way back, coaches and shuttle buses use a signed zone of their own upstairs at departures: 20 minutes cost nothing and 30 is the maximum, which leaves time to unload the cases and say goodbye properly.
The Altstadt, Cologne and the Rhine
The Burgplatz in the Altstadt is only about 9 km by road, a quarter of an hour when traffic is light. Much of Düsseldorf lies inside a low-emission zone that needs the green sticker.
Cologne and its cathedral are about 60 km by road, 45 to 50 minutes. That makes a Rhineland weekend with a night in each city easy to arrange, and the minibus that met you at the airport can carry you between the two.
Questions travellers ask
Is there a train from the airport?
Yes. The long-distance station Düsseldorf Flughafen has everything from the S-Bahn to the ICE, and the SkyTrain shuttles you there from the terminal in around 7 minutes. Line S11 leaves from beneath the terminal, and light-rail lines U80 and U81 now reach the Altstadt in about 15 minutes. Works can change rail timetables, so look up the service for your day.
There are 30 of us. Is a minibus still right?
From around two dozen passengers a midi or full-size coach is the better fit, and it goes through the bus registration described above. Smaller parties travel comfortably in one or two minibuses.
Can friends meet us inside?
Yes. Anyone meeting you may wait in the public part of the arrivals hall, so the whole party can gather there before heading out to the vehicle together.
