Class trips and study tours, sized to your group
A Klassenfahrt, a course trip to Dresden or a choir weekend begins with a simple question: how many pupils and adults really need a seat? From there, the right vehicle is easy to choose.
One vehicle for one group
A study group of a dozen pupils and two teachers fits comfortably in a minibus. A full class with its adults usually needs a midi-coach of about thirty seats, and two classes travelling together take a full-size coach.
Count the teachers, helpers and any guide in the total. The driver drives; supervision stays with the school, and so do the school's own rules for trips.

Belts, booster seats and the 3.5-tonne line
Every pupil wears a seat belt wherever one is fitted, on a coach as much as in a car. The rule on child seats is less obvious. Pupils below the age of 12 who are also under 1.50 m tall need a child restraint in vehicles with belts, but not on a bus heavier than 3.5 tonnes.
A large coach is above that line; a small minibus may not be. With younger pupils, give their ages and heights in the request so the right seats are on board.
Rules to know before the day
- Required seat belts must be worn while driving, including by children on coaches
A week away with one driver
On a single trip of this kind, the weekly rest can wait for as long as twelve days, so the same person can stay with the class from Monday to Friday. Daily limits still apply. Sunday departures are allowed too, because the holiday driving ban for lorries does not cover buses.
Questions travellers ask
Can the minibus come with us to Saxon Switzerland?
Yes. For the Bastei, coaches use car park no. 1 where the Basteistraße begins. The class then walks roughly 3.5 km to the rocks; from April to October a shuttle bus runs as well.
Does the vehicle wait while we visit?
It can. Waiting is part of the driver's day, so give the visit times and the plan for lunch when you ask.
Can we leave on a Sunday?
Yes. Buses are not covered by the Sunday and holiday lorry ban, so a return on Sunday evening before school is possible.
