Accessible travel for every member of the group
When someone in your party uses a wheelchair or walks slowly, the right vehicle matters more than anything else. A wheelchair-accessible minibus with a lift or ramp lets everyone travel together.
Tell us who is travelling
Give more than a headcount. Say how many people stay seated in their wheelchair, how many can transfer to a seat, whether a chair is manual or electric, and if walking frames or scooters come along.
Each wheelchair position takes the place of seats and some luggage room, so the right layout depends on your group. Mention stops where someone needs extra time to get out, such as a lunch break or a toilet stop.

What the law expects
If a car carries a passenger who stays in the wheelchair, it needs a wheelchair space with a restraint for the chair and another for the person. Accessible minibuses have securing points for each wheelchair, and the partner operator supplies a vehicle fitted for your group.
EU assistance rights for bus passengers are written for scheduled routes of at least 250 km. A private hire falls outside them, so access, help on board and any extra time are arranged with each booking.
Rules to know before the day
- Those rights cover scheduled services, so on a private hire accessible vehicles and assistance are arranged with each booking
- In Nürnberg, coaches carrying people with reduced mobility may use Augustinerstraße only with a special access permit booked online with the city
Places that make room
Nürnberg lets a coach with passengers of reduced mobility into Augustinerstraße in the old town, but only with a permit booked online with the city. At Warnemünde, passengers reach the terminal buildings by berths P7 and P8 without steps.
Carnival in Cologne has an inclusion grandstand for the Rosenmontag parade, set up on the Hohenzollernring; places are booked through the regional authority, the LVR.
Questions travellers ask
Can a wheelchair user travel with friends in the same vehicle?
Yes. That is what an accessible minibus is for: wheelchair positions and ordinary seats in one vehicle.
How early should we book?
As early as you can. Accessible minibuses are fewer than standard ones, especially in fair weeks and at Christmas.
Will the driver help with boarding?
The driver operates the lift or ramp and secures the chair. Say in advance if someone needs more help.
Can we visit a Christmas market?
Yes. Tell us which one, and the operator looks for the closest place the vehicle may stop.
